The Blue Envelope Program helps improve communication and understanding between individuals with developmental disabilities and law enforcement during traffic stops or other encounters.
Drivers can keep important documents inside the blue envelope, such as their driver’s license, registration, insurance information, communication preferences, and emergency contacts. The envelope can also help let officers know that the driver may need additional time, clear instructions, or other support during the interaction.
The Blue Envelope Program is especially helpful for people who may have communication, sensory, or cognitive needs. It can help reduce stress, prevent misunderstandings, and support safer interactions.
This program is a partnership between local law enforcement and the Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities, working together to promote safety, understanding, and inclusion in our community.
