FAMILY SUPPORT
Supporting families with children ages three through ten years

Family Support Administration Roster
Family Support Services are designed to support and meet the needs of school age children. The Family Support Administrators work with children and their family to assist with the transition to preschool and through their elementary school years. See Family Support Administration Brochure
Mission: To support children living in the family home to increase independence and remove barriers to the home and community. The focus is on therapy and working with the schools to support a holistic plan for independence.
The Support Administrator is the single point of contact for board services, they will assist the family with the planning process, authorizing services and monitoring those services.
Explanation of Supports:
- Family Support Services are not a direct service
- Primary responsibility for education and therapy services is the local school district
- Development and implementation of a Family Support Plan
- Family Support Services are intended to enhance the family’s capacity to care for their child in the home and in the community
- Use of family centered planning and parent control is encouraged and expected
- Coordination with school services to maintain skills year round
- Remove barriers within the home and community through adaptation and modification
Locally Funded Services could include:
Therapies: Both traditional and non-traditional therapies that are supported by empirical research. This includes behavioral therapy and consultation.
Therapy Equipment: To further assist with accomplishing specific therapy goals.
Respite: To provide parents with the opportunity for assistance with caring for a child who is eligible for DCDD services. Parents can choose from DCDD providers or a family secured provider of their own. Family secured providers must meet specific criteria prior to starting services. See Family Secured Provider Packet
Community Classes: Specialized and typical classes to support therapeutic goals related to the child’s diagnosed disability.
Summer Supports: Day camp and summer programming, either specialized or integrated with typical peers.
Special Diets: As prescribed by a doctor or Licensed Dietitian.
Counseling/conferences and education for the family: Individual or group counseling for family members relating to the disability and to help further a family’s knowledge of their child’s special needs. Educational materials designed to increase a family's capacity of care, interactions, and understanding of a child with special needs.
Memberships: Provide therapeutic activities for the family which helps to address a documented developmental delay and are not a required school activity.
Adaptation/Modification help to cover the cost of a one-time, non-recurring purchase of tangible and non-typical items that remove barriers and/or increase a child's independence. Co-pay may apply.
Adaptation/Modification includes:
Adaptation items include hearing aids, adapted car seats, ramps, and equipment that have been modified, adapted, or selected/fitted specifically for a child. Also included are calming aids as recommended by a therapist.
Modifications include changes made to the permanent structure of an occupant owned home or Delaware Creative Housing home and require a building permit.
All locally funded services should be disability and goal based attempting to decrease the need for ongoing therapy and/or services.
These services will be need based, written in the family support plan and pre-authorized prior to implementation.
