Family Support Administration Roster

Family Support Services are designed to support and meet the needs of school age children. The Family Support Administrators work with children and their family to assist with the transition to preschool and through their elementary school years. See Family Support Administration Brochure

Mission: To support children living in the family home to increase independence and remove barriers to the home and community. The focus is on therapy and working with the schools to support a holistic plan for independence.

The Support Administrator is the single point of contact for board services, they will assist the family with the planning process, authorizing services and monitoring those services.
Explanation of Supports:
  • Family Support Services are not a direct service
  • Primary responsibility for education and therapy services is the local school district
  • Development and implementation of a Family Support Plan
  • Family Support Services are intended to enhance the family's capacity to care for their child in the home and in the community
  • Use of family centered planning and parent control is encouraged and expected
  • Coordination with school services to maintain skills year round
  • Remove barriers within the home and community through adaptation and modification
Locally Funded Services could include:
Therapies: Both traditional and non-traditional therapies that are supported by empirical research. This includes behavioral therapy and consultation.
Equipment: Therapy Equipment and Calming Aids recommended by a Therapist.
Respite: Respite provides the opportunity for a brief reprieve for caregivers. Parents can choose from DCBDD providers or a family secured provider of their own. Family secured providers must meet specific criteria prior to starting services.
Specialized Classes/Camps: Specialized classes and camps that support therapeutic goals related to the child's diagnosed disability.
Counseling/conferences and education for the family: Individual or group counseling for family members relating to the disability and to help further a family's knowledge of their child’s special needs. Educational materials designed to increase a family's capacity of care, interactions, and understanding of a child with special needs.
Adaptation/Modification: Helps to cover the cost of a one-time, non-recurring purchase of tangible and non-typical items that remove barriers and/or increase a child's independence. Co-pay may apply. Adaptation/Modification could include: Adaptation items include hearing aids, adapted car seats, ramps, and equipment that have been modified, adapted, or selected/fitted specifically for a child.

These services will be need based, written in the family support plan and pre-authorized prior to implementation.
