 Early Intervention
Early Intervention (EI) is a specialized way of interacting with infants and toddlers, birth through two years, to impact their lives to achieve their greatest potential. The services and supports available through Delaware County Developmental Disabilities’ Early Intervention are provided through local monies such as tax levies. The following information describes supports and services available:
- The Early Intervention Specialist acts as the primary service provider for the Delaware County Developmental Disabilities’ supports for children birth through two years of age. This specialty requires a credential in developmental intervention through the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities. The Early Intervention Specialist offers families information, strategies, and support related to enhancing the skill development of their child; measures and documents developmental progress; collaborates with other professionals; and provides families access to DCDD funded therapy and other community support services by authorizing and managing an individual budget for each family.
- In addition to the services described above, Delaware County Developmental Disabilities offers Early Intervention Specialty Groups at a variety of locations throughout the community. Activities for gaining new skills in daily, ongoing, real life experiences are matched to the child’s developmental abilities and interests. Primary caregiver attends and is directly involved with their child during group sessions. Families receive a brochure through the mail for each fall, winter, spring Specialty Group terms providing their child does not turn three during the term. Families may access up to three groups per plan year.
